Snakes & Lattes
Ready...Set...Battle!
They say true friendship blossoms in the face of adversity. But what happens when your friends are your adversaries? Nothing brings out the best in people like a friendly board-game or two (; It's a time where you can unleash that competitive side of you, and do your very best to screw over your bestie with no real harm done (or so they claim) :P
Board-game cafés are my current trending hangout spot. My inner nerd surfaces and rejoices each time I roll a dice or plot my friend's demise (albeit a rather failed attempt) in a game of wits and strategy. With so many universities in the downtown core, it's no wonder that board-games cafés are popping up left, right and centre to cater for more student-friendly activities.
Snakes & Lattes up near Koreatown is one of the most popular board-game cafés around town. It's a local hotspot, which is forever packed! So...what kind of games get your hype up?
They've got...
Company and competition are bound to chalk up one's appetite. Whilst playing, you can snack upon their sandwiches, quiches or salads. For those with a sweet tooth, they do have a few desserts to choose from as well. As for the beverages, Snakes & Lattes offer a variety of smoothies, milkshakes, teas and coffees.
My friends and I were overdue for our board-game fix, which was why we found ourselves hitting up Snakes & Lattes one Saturday afternoon. It was my very first visit there, and I ordered 'The Option' (which sounds so forbidding when you read it out loud). It was a vegan sandwich made with grilled portobello mushrooms, roasted zuchinnis, caramelized red onions and a vegan garlic aioli. A simple sandwich indeed, but sometimes, it's the simple things in life that bring us happiness, eh?
The Salted Caramel Latte was divine. Served with coffee art (yay!), the sweet notes of caramel mixed with the milk and coffee was the perfect caffeine dose I needed to kickstart my system. We also snacked on veggie chips throughout the course of our patronage there.
From Sunday-Wednesday, it opens from 11am - 12am; and on Thursday-Saturday, from 11am - 2am. We played and snacked our way through the afternoon, making it the ideal lazy weekend. Game. Set. Match. It's go time people...time to bring your poker faces to the table!
